Upcoming Local Action
Saturday 2nd March | 1 - 4pm | Outside the Town Hall, Tunbridge Wells, TN1 1RS
Empty Shoes For Lost Lives
Where: The steps outside Tunbridge Wells Town Hall
What: Display pairs of shoes representing the children killed in Gaza
When: Saturday 2nd March, gather from 1pm to set up, finish at 4pm
This will be a family friendly action, with hundreds of pairs of children’s shoes laid out neatly on the town hall steps, each pair a representation of child who has been killed in Gaza.
We will have leaflets to hand out, large Palestine flags with poles for people to wave in solidarity, and items to sell to raise funds for the charity Medical Aid for Palestinians, with additional donation buckets for people to move around with.
There will be a special carpeted area for children’s activities, such as colouring in pictures of watermelon slices and olive branches.
At the top of the steps, using our portable PA, we will read Michael Rosen’s Poem ‘Don’t Mention the Children’ after which children will proceed to read the names of children killed in Gaza and the West Bank. This will be repeated every 15 minutes throughout the afternoon. We will also read quotes and messages from children in Gaza.

Now is the perfect time to brush up on the current list of companies to boycott for their complicity in Israel’s genocide against Palestinians.
Barclays, Stop Arming Israel
Our campaigning focus is on Barclays this week, demanding the bank end its financial ties with companies that are arming Israel. You can support the campaign by doing the following:
Email Barclays to demand it ends financial ties with companies arming Israel – you can use the pre-filled email template here.
Why Barclays?
Israel’s assault on Palestinians in the Gaza Strip has killed many thousands. Nowhere in the Gaza Strip is safe; residential neighbourhoods have been levelled, schools sheltering the displaced and hospitals treating the wounded have been hit.
Barclays must end all financial ties with companies arming Israel.
Barclays invests over £1 billion in companies supplying weapons and military technology to Israel, used in its bombardment of the besieged Gaza Strip.
Barclays invests in:
General Dynamics, which produces the gun systems that arm the F-16 and F-35 fighter jets being used by Israel to bomb the Gaza Strip.
Elbit Systems, one of Israel’s largest arms companies, which produces drones, munitions, bombs, and artillery weapons used by the Israeli military.
Palestinians have asked us to take action against companies, like Barclays, that are complicit in the violence they face.
And there is a precedent for success: Barclays was the biggest high street bank in apartheid South Africa, and anti-apartheid campaigns throughout the 70s and 80s successfully pressured the bank to withdraw from South Africa in 1986. It worked then, so why not today?
Barclays must end all financial ties with companies supplying weapons and military technology to Israel, used in its assault on Palestinians.
Thank you for joining us
